How a saju day works
In saju, every calendar day has its own pillar: a pair of characters, one of the ten heavenly stems and one of the twelve earthly branches. The pairs run in a fixed cycle of sixty, so each day carries its own mix of elements. Your personal fortune compares today's pillar with your Day Master and asks a simple question: does today's energy support you, ask something of you, or give you room to rest?
Months work a little differently. Saju months begin on solar terms, the 24 seasonal markers of the traditional sun-based calendar. They fall about 15 days apart, and a new saju month starts at every second one. So "this month" in saju runs from one of those markers to the next, for example from Hanro (around October 8) to Ipdong (around November 7–8), rather than from the 1st to the 30th.
How to read your daily note
Each personal note has four parts: how the day may feel, what tends to go well, what to watch, and one small step. Read the feeling first and hold it up against your real morning. If it fits, the small step is there to try. If it doesn't, let it go; a daily fortune is a nudge, not a rule. It can help to read it in the morning and choose one thing to try.
Two ways to read the day
- Get Your Personal Fortune from your birthday — today's fortune for your own chart.
- Read the daily zodiac fortune — short lines for all 12 animals, posted each day (star signs: Daily Western Horoscope).
In saju, the zodiac year starts at Ipchun (around Feb 3–5; the exact time varies by year). Born between Jan 1 and Ipchun? You may belong to the previous year's animal. In everyday Korean life, many people count the zodiac year from Seollal (Lunar New Year) instead, so if you were born between the two, your two animals can differ.
What's traditional and what's ours: the four pillars, the five elements and the ten Day Masters come from traditional saju. Names like Oak and Rain are our own English images for the ten Day Masters, and Bond Circle's six stars are our own system inspired by Five Elements relationships, not traditional saju terms.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my personal fortune different from my zodiac fortune?
The zodiac fortune is shared by everyone born in the same animal year, so it stays broad. Your personal fortune uses your Day Master, which comes from your exact birth date, so it fits you more closely. Your type changes only if your birth time falls close to midnight, after the birth-time adjustment.
Can I check a date in the future?
Not yet. For now, the calculator shows today's fortune for your chart.
What if today looks demanding?
That's not a reason to worry. A day that asks more of you can also be a day to practice patience. Every personal note ends with one small, doable step, so you always have something to hold on to.
